6 Pinterest Outfits I’m Recreating This Winter Without Buying Anything New

There are those times when even I, a professional stylist (you know, someone who gets paid to tell other people what to wear), cannot be bothered to pick out an outfit. Come winter, the struggle to find something to wear increases with my lack of enthusiasm to throw on yet another jeans-and-a-sweater combo. It’s times like these that I like to rely on the true experts (read: my “Winter Outfits to Recreate” Pinterest board).

Make no mistake: I couldn’t make it through the winter season without my trusty troop of jeans and knits, but some days, in order to leave my warm bed on a cold morning, I need the added motivation of an outfit with a bit more oomph. Only, that extra dose of oomph needs to come without any extra cost attached, seeing as I’ve just spent my last dollar on Black Friday deals, holiday decor (I just had to have a real tree this year), and five-star gifts for the fam, meaning I won’t be purchasing any new clothes for the foreseeable future. So as I scroll through my “Winter Outfits” Pinterest board, I’ll be looking for inspo with one question in mind: Can I recreate this look without buying anything new?

Inspired to join in on the challenge? Ahead, I’m sharing six Pinterest-inspired looks that I’m leaning on to carry me through this winter and beyond.

6 Pinterest Outfits to Recreate This Winter

1. A Hoodie + Coat + Leggings

A hoodie is a wardrobe essential that often gets put on reserve for at-home wear; however, when paired with oversized outerwear, it can make for a super chic ensemble. Taking advantage of a few staple accessories as well as a simple five-minute makeup routine is the key to making this look feel less like you’re about to cozy up on the couch and more like you’re about to head out for the day. Though I like that she’s kept things casual with her choice of sneakers, I’ll most likely switch things up and opt for a pair of loafers instead, making the hoodie and leggings look all the more put-together.

2. A Sweater + Midi Skirt + Knee-High Boots

If it involves a pair of knee-high boots, count me in. While a midi skirt paired with knee-high boots is anything but revolutionary, I often forget the combination exists. I usually reach for a silk skirt when I’m styling outfits like these, but the choice of the wool skirt paired with a sweater makes for a fresh take on a basic ensemble that I can’t wait to recreate.

3. A Cardigan + Boots + Trousers

Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Well, in the midst of feeling indecisive about what to wear, this isn’t a combination my mind generally gravitates toward. Normally, I’d throw on a cardigan with a pair of jeans, but alas, in my state of aforementioned discontent, a relaxed pair of trousers sounds a bit more appetizing. Since I prefer a pointed toe over a round toe, I’ll be swapping her lug-sole boots for kitten-heeled ones.

4. A Turtleneck + Mini Skirt + Loafers

I wore this exact outfit combo not too long ago, not realizing it’d be my most-complimented look of the season. This combination should be largely centered around the turtleneck—the more oversized, the better—with just a sliver of the skirt peaking out at the bottom. With this approach, you’ll help to modernize the fitted mini and bring balance to the roomy sweater. Of course, you could finish the look with a classic pair of loafers, but I’ll be trying this with a gold pair that already exists in my closet.

5. A Long Coat + Scarf + Baggy Jeans

This season, play up the oversized trend by pairing a few wardrobe staples with a chunky, cold-weather accessory or two. Afraid to take the trend to its max? Choose one oversized piece to serve as the base of the outfit, then stick to more fitted silhouettes for the rest. The key to nailing this look is to embrace its effortless, laissez-faire effect.

6. A Beanie + Maxi Skirt + Kitten Heels

Needless to say, I’m a huge fan of skirts right now. If you’re also also feeling like youre jeans are a bit lackluster, adding a couple of skirst into the mix can be the perfect solution. Much like the outfit in this photo, I’ve been experimenting with tonal looks—like coordinating the color of my tights with the color of my skirt—for more elvated results. The next time I try this combo, rest assured it will be with a beanie to perfectly juxtapose the otherwise formal look.
