Fu Qiumeng Fine Art is thrilled to present Along The Way: Transforming the Traditional, marking the New York City debut of Atlanta-based artist Brandon Sadler and his official representation by the gallery. The show, running through March 8, offers a fresh perspective on East Asian art traditions, reimagined through Sadler’s personal and cultural lens.
His multidisciplinary approach draws from his graffiti background, illustration, and an ongoing study of East Asian art forms, including ink calligraphy and woodblock prints. The exhibition features three main series: assemblage, calligraphy, and lotus painting. Each represents a facet of Sadler’s artistic journey, exploring themes of identity, spirituality, and interconnectedness.
In his assemblages, crafted from found and created materials, Sadler reflects on the passage of time and human touch, transforming objects into metaphors for memory and transformation. His calligraphy, blending Chinese principles with English text, uses the brush as a meditative tool, creating works that explore the fluid interplay between form, gesture, and meaning. Meanwhile, Sadler’s lotus paintings, inspired by the timeless East Asian motif, offer expressive interpretations of rebirth and spiritual growth.
Sadler’s work bridges tradition and innovation, acknowledging the lineage of East Asian art while integrating his African American heritage. This dialogue between past and present fosters a deeper understanding of cultural exchange and creativity as interconnected forces.
