Haringey extends £98m road deal with Marlborough

Haringey Council has extended its road maintenance deal with Marlborough Highways, with the overall contract now worth up to £98m.

Marlborough’s existing five-year contract was due to expire in June 2025 but will now run until June 2027. The extension was made after a review process considering operational and social value.

As part of the contract, Marlborough repairs road infrastructure operated by the north-east London borough, including carriageways, footways and cycleways.

It also delivers junction improvements, installs traffic calming measures and conducts drainage and urban greening works – in addition to managing public realm improvement programmes.

Marlborough also has a separate contract with the council for street lighting work, which includes repairing columns and lanterns, replacing wall lights and updating power cables.

The Essex-based company said this “dual agreement provides operational synergy, enabling both Marlborough and the local authority to deliver a comprehensive and integrated service”.

Marlborough Highways’ managing director Matthew Revell said: “We will continue to go above and beyond, with our dedicated team remaining committed to building a safer, greener, and better-connected Haringey for everyone.”

Marlborough Highways turned over £88m in its last reported financial year, which ended 31 December 2022. It made a £1.8m pre-tax profit and employed an average of 363 staff.

According to the accounts, the group has also worked with the London boroughs of Hackney, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Enfield and Brent.
